Leah Brucha Mechina Program

Jewish Education for Children

The Board of Directors and members of Temple Beth Zion would like to announce the return of the synagogue’s mechina, or preperatory, program. After an extended absence from Jewish education, Temple Beth Zion will begin offering a monthly class for children 5, 6, and 7 years of age.

This class will be a living memorial to our late president Lynne Sturt Weintraub and her husband Ralph, a founding member of the board's education subcommittee, who both had a deep and sincere love for children. The Leah Bracha Mechina Program is being established to provide young children with a positive initial introduction to Hebrew and Jewish Culture.

Classes are scheduled to occur one Sunday a month, and will include activities and assignments that children and parents can work with at home. The course curriculum includes seasonal lessons on Holidays and Festivals, and it will be available through the temple office or on the temple's web-site. A brochure of the program is available for download. Please share it with other parents you think might be interested in our program.

The class is free to children and grandchildren of Temple Beth Zion members and there is no fee for the the first session attended by non-members. Non-members attending beyond the first (free) session will pay a minimal $10 fee per session attended. Non-member fees that are paid prior to Rosh Hashanah may be deducted from the cost of temple membership.
